Ceramic Tile - Cleaning and Care

The ceramic tile you have purchased is an investment that will give you many years of enjoyment. Here are a few recommendations for routine care and cleaning:

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any loose dirt.
  • Clean your ceramic tile with a neutral cleaner
  • Tile cleaner
  • Neutral Ph cleaner
  • Too much cleaner may cause a film
  • Rinse the surface thoroughly (You may need to rinse twice)

Do's

  • Do sweep or vacuum frequently
  • Do clean your tile floor with a mild detergent or tile cleaner
  • Do blot up spill immediately
  • Do use felt protectors under your furniture and chairs
  • Do use mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance

Don'ts

  • Don't use cleaners containing acids or ammonia
  • Acids may damage the grout and the glazed surface of the tile
  • Ammonia my discolor the grout
  • Don't use oil soaps or waxes to clean your tile
  • Don't slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across your floor
  • Protect your floor by using a dolly

Frequently, dust mop your floor using a clean non-treated dry mop. Sand, dirt and grit do the most damage to tile floors due to their abrasiveness. Mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance will help to minimize this. Be sure that the underside of the mat or rug is a non-slip surface. It takes about eight steps to remove sand or dirt from the bottom of ones shoes. Do not use a worn vacuum cleaner. Metal or plastic attachments or their wheel may scratch the surface.
